January 28, 2008 - MPH Alumni, Dr. Linette Scott has been appointed Deputy Director of Health Information and Strategic Planning for the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). Dr. Scott is a Board Certified Physician in Public Health and General Preventive Medicine. She has a Doctor of Medicine degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School, a Master in Public Health degree from UC Davis, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physics from UC Santa Cruz. Dr. Scott joined CDPH as a Public Health Medical Officer, developing expertise in data and information systems, data policies and public health informatics. Dr. Scott has worked with experts in Public Health Informatics nationally, statewide leaders in Geographic Information Systems, and statewide efforts for Health Information Technology adoption. As the Deputy Director for Health Information and Strategic Planning, Dr. Scott will play a key role in managing the Center for Health Statistics and the Office of County Health Services as well as providing coordination and leadership for departmental strategic planning and the development of shared informatics resources, such as the CDPH Internet. January 22, 2008 - We are immensely proud of Monica Garcia, a MPH student who received a 2007 Hispanic Health Professional Student Scholarship for $2,000. Monica is one of nine health professional students from California to win a scholarship from the National Hispanic Health Foundation (NHHF), a nonprofit group affiliated with the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University. The scholarships were presented at the First Annual NHHF Hispanic Health Professional Student Scholarship Gala held on January 22nd, at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento.
